Minecraft: Dungeons is a Minecraft spin-off that has you battle your way through blocky dungeons to unravel a mystery involving the villain Arch-Illager.

If you are a big fan of Minecraft but are ready for a new challenge, then you might want to take a closer look at Minecraft: Dungeons. This unique title was made by many of the same people who worked on the original Minecraft, and it is a great option for anyone who likes dungeon crawlers as well as the blocky Minecraft universe. Minecraft: Dungeons also has dozens of new items and abilities that add quite a bit of depth to this game.

The primary goal of Minecraft: Dungeons is to battle your way through a fast-paced campaign as you learn more about an enemy known as Arch-Illager who is imprisoning local villagers. Anyone who has ever played Diablo or another dungeon crawler is going to find this game very familiar, and the first playthrough can easily be completed within just a few hours.

Each level has a unique goal, and the environment is randomly generated based on a few different parameters. One level might be set in a lava-filled cave where you must find the key to escape while another level will have you save villagers in an ominous swamp. As you explore each level and battle new enemies, you will be provided with a variety of new weapons and skills. Difficult monsters tend to drop better items, but that system is randomized as well.

As an added bonus, players can jump into Minecraft: Dungeons with up to three additional friends, and the co-op feature works locally as well as remotely. While this game has been released on a variety of platforms and devices, cross-play is currently unavailable. That being said, the local and remote co-op feature adds a whole new dynamic to this game, and you might want to team up with a few friends once you have progressed to some of the harder levels.

After you have beaten the first playthrough, the game’s difficulty settings are going to jump, and the various dungeons will be filled with waves of deadly combatants. Luckily, the harder monsters should continue to drop better weapons and skills so that you can work your way through the dungeons. With the increasing difficulty of each playthrough and the co-op features, Minecraft: Dungeons has excellent replayability, and you will be able to lose yourself for hours in this game.
